Project Development Phase

During the project development phase of a wind farm, several key technical components are essential for ensuring successful planning, design, and execution. At Clover Energy, we provide support across these critical areas, leveraging our expertise to navigate the complexities of wind farm projects.

Our expertise allows us to effectively address risks and challenges throughout the wind farm lifetime.

With many years of experience in the wind industry at Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and large renewable energy developers and operators, we offer knowledge from wind turbine Research and Development (R&D), risk identification, new turbine design reviews, operational and maintenance (O&M) improvements, and subject matter expertise related to TSA and SWA contracts. Additionally, we have conducted technical due diligence on many of the latest wind turbine generator (WTG) platforms from some of the largest European developers.

Our expertise allows us to effectively address risks and challenges, resulting in key customer benefits, including:

  • Identify and address potential risks throughout the wind farm lifetime.
  • Analyse and validate economic assumptions within financial models to support budgeting and financing.
  • Leverage subject matter expertise in TSA and SWA contracts to capture important areas that can benefit the wind farm throughout its full lifecycle.
  • Empower informed decision-making regarding investments and financing strategies.

Implementation and Installation phase

The implementation and installation phase are a pivotal step in transforming wind project plans into an operational wind farm. This phase is often bustling, with all teams focused on completing the project as swiftly as possible, as any delays can lead to significant financial repercussions.

While the urgency to complete the project may tempt both you and the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to hastily push through the process, it is vital to ensure that the product you receive aligns precisely with the promised specifications.

This is where Clover Energy can provide invaluable support through our comprehensive consultancy services, particularly during the commissioning phase and the subsequent 240-hour test run.

The commissioning process comprises a series of tasks performed by technicians to verify that the asset meets the fundamental operational requirements. Following the successful completion of the commissioning work, the Take Over Certification (TOC) is conducted. This endurance test typically involves a rigorous 240-hour operational run, during which the asset must perform within predetermined criteria to be deemed acceptable.

These contractual tests are completed and approved by both the OEM and the asset owner. However, the owner's approval often depends heavily on the OEM's reports, which may not present the full picture of the asset’s performance.

This is where Clover Energy can support by thoroughly analysing the data from both the commissioning and TOC test runs, and providing you with independent investigations to verify that the asset has passed the tests during commissioning and TOC. This enables you to identify and address any risks and concerns before formally accepting the handover and executing the final payment to the OEM.

Utilising the data available during this critical phase not only protects your return on investment but also minimises the risk of financial losses stemming from inadequate handover practices.

By ensuring that any critical issues are rectified before the OEM departs and transitions responsibility of the asset to you, you can achieve a validated and reliable handover, thereby safeguarding your substantial investment in the wind farm.
